Clients may believe they know about viral hepatitis, but their understanding of the disease may not be accurate. It is easy to confuse the three main types of viral hepatitis A, B, and C. Clients may have formed impressions based on limited or incorrect information. Counselors should briefly describe hepatitis A, B, and C, including their prevalence, transmission, and relationship to drug use, as well as to other infections, such as HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.
